On this World Environment Day, the Bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation Iraq proudly joined forces with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Youth and Sport, the Department of Culture, UNDP, and Save the Children Iraq. Together, we celebrated under the theme "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience."
Held in Waziriya, Baghdad, the event featured Minister of Environment Nizar Amidi, who highlighted critical initiatives like solar energy projects, sustainable agriculture, and international collaborations. He emphasized the importance of education and civil society in raising environmental awareness and addressing desertification. Reflecting on the past year's significant progress, he noted milestones such as Iraq's impactful presence at COP28 in Dubai, where Iraq had its own pavilion for the first time and presented over 30 sessions. Looking ahead to COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, Minister Amidi expressed plans to build on this success. Additionally, preparations are underway for the Desertification Conference in Riyadh, aimed at addressing one of Iraq's most pressing environmental challenges, presenting opportunities for global partnerships and innovative solutions, and establishing a permanent negotiation team for desertification, similar to efforts for climate change. He reaffirmed the commitment to reducing pollution across Iraq and implementing strategies to manage Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs).
The Ministry of Environment honored BHHF for its continued support in raising awareness and making a positive impact on Iraq's environment. Additionally, BHHF presented environmental learning gifts to participating teachers and students to encourage and honor their efforts in promoting sustainability and protecting the environment.
